Auburn men’s golf is on top of the world after winning its first national championship in program history on Wednesday with a victory in the match play final over Florida State. But the NCAA tournament wasn’t the start of Auburn’s success. It’s been a dream season throughout for the Tigers, will plenty of trophies hoisted and rolls of toilet paper thrown at Toomer’s Corner.

Auburn won a staggering 10 tournaments on the season, including the NCAA national championship tournament. “I told them before we got here, if they won this golf tournament, they could go down as one of the best college golf teams in the history of college golf, and I think we accomplished that today,” Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said on the GOLF Channel broadcast shortly after the national championship win. Auburn’s season kicked off with a finish much like how the Tigers’ season ended: on top of the leaderboard.

Auburn walked into the Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate in September and came out with a dominant, 11-stroke win. Being the only team to shoot under 800 through three rounds, Auburn took down the field of 14 other teams with ease. The opening tournament also served as freshman phenom Jackson Koivun’s introduction to the college golf world.

Consistently shooting a 66-65-66 over three rounds, Koivun finished second individually in the competition at 17-under. And that was just the beginning of the historic season Koivun put together. Led by Koivun and his teammates Brendan Va.
