If you drove up Aurora Avenue this week and saw the Canlis facade all dolled up in hot pink, don’t sweat: You weren’t going delirious from the scorching heat around Seattle . Social media went into a frenzy over the past 48 hours as folks wondered why Seattle’s estimable fine dining institution was painted the color of Pepto Bismol. No, Canlis has not gone the stadium sponsorship route, selling its naming rights to T-Mobile.

The correct answer? It’s a Barbie-themed party planned for next month. Or, rather, “Kenlis.” Get it? Canlis will host a two-day Barbie-esque bash, with its restaurant converted into a dream house and its stately dining room transformed to a dance floor, complete with bubbles and glitter.

There will even be a 9-foot slide from the upper level that shoots down to the main floor. The Kenlis party will go from 7 p.m.

to midnight on Aug. 9 and 10; single-night tickets cost $270 and include all food and drinks. Tickets will be released at 2 p.

Since Mattel has trademarks on the Barbie brand, the Canlis brothers aren’t copping that this is a Barbie playland, but owner Brian Canlis quipped that they are “huge fans” of the 2023 movie of the same name, and that he could see why people might think Kenlis is “inspired by the world of Barbie.” More So let’s just say that the upper parking level, which will be turned into a roller rink and decked out in pink décor, will be “inspired by” a character that Margot Robb.
