FORT MADISON – Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg couldn’t have chosen a better day to visit the Fort Madison Marina for the first time than Wednesday afternoon “I assume every day is 72 degrees and sunny in Fort Madison, Iowa,” he said with a laugh.

This was Gregg’s first visit to the completed marina. After greeting local leaders including Mayor Matt Mohrfeld, Lee County Economic Development Group President and CEO Dennis Fraise, Rep. Martin Graber, Sen.

Jeff Reichman and marina leaders Mike Mohrfeld and Wade Knoke, Gregg enjoyed a meal and a tour. Gregg said he was “very impressed” with the marina. “Absolutely beautiful natural resources here,” he said.

“And to utilize this in a way that can bring more tourist traffic, be a quality of life amenity for local residents, have an opportunity for river access but also to grab a bite to eat. Really impressive facility.” Gregg gave “a lot of credit to the local leadership who put together a vision for this, put together a plan to get it done and now we can reap the benefits of it.

It’s really exciting for the state of Iowa and the community of Fort Madison.” State leaders in Des Moines are talking about the marina, Gregg said. “It was supported by a state grant and the mayor did a great job, throughout the course of this, advocating at the state level and making sure folks are aware of the plans and seeking some funding to support it,” he said.

“I think this is great.” He said he had seen some of the renderin.
