The mayor of a Greek island that was evacuated due to out-of-control wildfires has issued a direct appeal to UK holidaymakers. Tourists on the island of Kos described scenes of chaos as emergency alerts were sounded and smoke clouds loomed over resorts. Holiday companies informed tourists that they were awaiting further information from authorities before advising customers.
It's understood that most people were allowed to return to their hotels and resorts in the early hours of Tuesday morning, but have been advised to steer clear of Kardamena while the fires are being controlled.
