Turquoise waters, winding streets, and delicious Greek food. Sound familiar? Only, we’re not talking about the likes of Athens or Santorini . Head north and you’ll find Kavala , a small city in Greece’s Macedonia (not to be confused with the separate country, the Republic of North Macedonia), which Lonely Planet describes as an area ‘littered with ancient cities, holy places and natural wonders.

’ While you’ve probably never heard of Kavala – known as the ‘Blue City’ as it hugs the Aegean Sea – you’re going to want to add it to your summer getaway hit-list. Described as a ‘crossroad between the East and West’ , Kavala is a melting pot of cultures, boasting both mountain views and beaches – as well as local delicacies to sample. And tourists have fallen in love with the place.
