Jaipur: The department of fashion and design technology at Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur has seen significant demand for its one-year diploma course in fashion and textile designing . This program aims to provide students with foundational knowledge in apparel construction and textile design. “Students from various academic backgrounds, including those who have completed their MSc or BCom, join our college.

This diversity enhances the artistic thinking of all individuals, and fashion is all about ideas and being artistic,” said Prof. Dolly Mogra, head of the department. There is no age limit for enrolment and many individuals, even those aged 60 and retired, have pursued this diploma to gain a degree in fashion and textile design.

Last year, the program saw a surge in applications, with 120-130 candidates vying for just 30 available seats. The university, however, managed to accommodate an additional 10-20 students due to high demand. Officials said that this high demand can also be attributed to the startup possibilities this course provides, which attracts students from all backgrounds.

Nitin, a recent graduate of the course who has now started his own clothing brand said, “The course provided me with a platform to showcase my knowledge and learn several new things. I believe everyone, even those not intending to pursue a career in fashion, should join this course. It not only enhances one’s skills but also significantly develops creative thinking.
