Rollout of electronic health records and patient app among Government commitments made A ‘Shared Care Record’ which will integrate patient records across the health service has been promised as part of the long-awaited digital health framework for Ireland, published today. ‘Digital for Care: A Digital Health Framework for Ireland 2024-2030’ sets out how a system of electronic health records (EHR) will be rolled out across the Irish health service for the first time. The first phase of the new plan will see the roll-out of a patient app that the public can use to input important medical information, including their health history and records.
The ‘Shared Care Record’ will follow next year, while the longer-term deployment of EHR has also been promised. Other commitments made under the framework include plans to: “This Digital Health Framework for Ireland (2024 – 2030) sets out a clear ambition for the future. A future that harnesses the power of data, digital technology, and innovation, to widen access to health and social care services, provide improved affordable and equitable care, better patient safety and greater productivity,” said Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.
“Digitising services across health and social care is a priority for myself and my department. Through successive budgets, Government has consistently increased both capital and revenue funding for digital health. The health service now has an ambitious forward-looking digital pipeline .
