A popular fast food chain is set to open its fourth restaurant in North East. German Doner Kebab (GDK) is set to unveil a new 2823 sqft site at the Metrocentre in Gateshead this summer - with an opening date yet to be confirmed. Known for serving up Halal-friendly kebabs with premium cuts of meat, locally sourced salad, and signature sauces, the growing firm already has a string of locations in the region including in Newcastle, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough.

GDK Metrocentre will be located on the ground floor of the yellow mall, opposite the recently upsized Primark, and will be offering a takeaway and delivery service. (Image: LDR) The restaurant - which has a capacity for 42 covers - marks the brand’s 143rd location across the UK and will join the likes of big-name brands Five Guys, Slim Chickens, and Wingstop. It comes as the popular shopping centre prepares to launch The Escapologist escape room on Saturday, which has taken over the former JG Windows music store.

CEO Simon Wallis said: “I am thrilled to officially announce plans to bring the unique GDK taste sensation to the Metrocentre Shopping Centre. “GDK is revolutionising kebabs across the UK and I am confident we will continue this trend in Gateshead. GDK offers a premium dining experience with game-changing kebabs that are made fresh daily by our hard-working team powered by our fantastic franchise partners.
