New details have emerged after US soap star Johnny Wactor was shot and killed at just 37 years old. The actor, who starred as Brando Corbin in General Hospital , was killed in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday morning in a car theft gone wrong. It's now been revealed he saved the life of his female co-worker by putting his body between her and armed car thieves.

Johnny had left his side job at a bar with a female colleague at around 3.25am on Saturday when he saw three men near his vehicle. He initially thought they were towing his car, but they'd actually been trying to steal Johnny's catalytic converter.

One of the men then pointed a gun at the actor, who put his body in front of his co-worker before he was shot.

The masked thieves then fled the scene in another vehicle. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but Johnny was pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspects remain at large.

Johnny's younger brother Grant has spoken out about the actor's final act of bravery. "We're Southern, born and raised, and we would never let a female walk to their car by herself," he told the Daily Mail . He added: "He came across .
