What are you to the late Major-General Abdullahi Shelleng? I am his son and I happen to be the first child of the family. Your father was a military officer of note, a civil war hero and a one time Military Governor of old Benue State; as a son, what kind of father was the late Major-General Abdullahi Shelleng? I will describe him as an excellent father who was very straightforward in his approach to life. He taught us to be like him and that is to be honest and straight forward in our dealings with fellow men.
What kind of husband was he to his wife? From what I saw of him, I will describe him as a perfect husband to my mum because I never saw him raise his voice against my mother. My father was a calm headed person. I think he got that trait from his father who was a calm headed person too.
For my late father, his priority was his family. He gave the family the best he could provide. He did that to the best of his ability.
You talked of him being a disciplinarian, was it because of his military background or perhaps, his upbringing? I think it was a combination of both. I will tell you that me and my younger siblings, I mean the four of us, all went to military schools. I attended the Nigerian Military School (NMS) in Zaria.
My immediate younger brother went to Air Force Military School. Our younger sister went to Command Secondary School while the last born went to Air Force Military School too. I think it is something that was in his blood.
Did any of you take after him b.
