is reportedly airing an additional episode as well as the special. Fans of the hit sitcom can't wait to see what happens in the last ever episode airing at the end of this year. There are so many unanswered questions we need answers to, including just what happened on that fishing trip.
But it's believed the BBC will be airing a behind-the-scenes feature looking back at the show's history. To celebrate James Corden and Ruth Jones' comedy which has made us laugh for 17 years, cameras have documented the filming of the last episode. An Insider told The Sun: "The Beeb view this as a momentous occasion and wanted to give Gavin & Stacey a suitably auspicious send-off.
"The fact that the documentary will be made by Fulwell 73, which is co-owned by James and is a co-producer of the sitcom, means they’ll enjoy full access on set and get all the biggest chats. It is likely to be made in tandem with the show itself, filming the creative process of delivering the finale from the first to the last day.” Creators James and Ruth revealed that Gavin and Stacey was coming back just a few weeks ago.
They wrote on social media: "Some news...
It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James [heart emoji] (sic).
" The last festive special, which aired in 2019, pulled in a whopping 18million viewers. It's said Sheridan Smith has had talks over reprising her role as Smithy's (James Corden) sister Rudi. .
