Gary Lineker has admitted he owes Frank Lampard an apology to Frank Lampard after the latter was on the end of a “bald joke” from the BBC presenter during live coverage of Euro 2024. Former Chelsea player and manager Lampard was on hand as a pundit for Germany’s clash against Hungary in Group A, with the host nation claiming a 2-0 win to advance to the knockout stages. As Lineker explained the screen behind the studio blocked out interruptions to the broadcast from the public, Lampard joked that if it was gone, people would only see the back of his head.
‘They’d see my head! They wouldn’t turn up for that,’ Lampard said . In typical fashion, Lineker looked to crack a joke in response. ‘No, you’re right, nobody wants to see the back of your head these days, that’s for sure,’ he replied.
Gary Lineker has just absolutely bodied Frank Lampard on live TV 🤣😂 Lampards face is killing me. The fume 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.
com/cGmdAHnvjO As the presenter moved on, studio cameras picked up on Lampard’s reaction as his smile quickly turned to a frown. The moment quickly went viral as viewers reacted on social media. ‘Lampard realising it was a balding joke has sent me,’ one said, while another posted that Lineker had “absolutely bodied” the pundit.
His look of confusion and the sudden stoppage of the smile etc and then looking around like “was he taking the pish” had me laughing. Lineker later clarified the joke was meant in a more general sense.
