SUMMERVILLE — Kouvarius Butler is best known as “Vinnie” among his close friends, family and uncle who gave him the nickname when he was just a kid growing up in downtown Charleston. Since opening Vinnie’s Seafood & Soul in December 2020, Butler has become “Vinnie with the garlic crabs,” a tagline he’ll happily wear as a badge of honor. The restaurant has operated out of multiple locations in the last four years — on Rivers Avenue near Bertha’s Kitchen and Dorchester Road close to the new North Charleston location of Ruby’s New York Style Bagels.

Now, Butler said the restaurant has found a stable home in Summerville. Vinnie’s Seafood & Soul opened at 140 Hemphill Court in May. The new 24-seat restaurant, open for dine-in and takeout, serves crab cakes, fried chicken, barbecue ribs, po’ boys and turkey wings.

Vinnie’s specialty, like it’s been since 2020, is garlic blue crabs. Story continues below “No matter where we go, that follows,” he said. Vinnie’s Seafood & Soul is open daily from 11:30 a.

m. to 8 p.m.
