Anthony McGwynne of Loughanelton, Co Sligo, died when the motorcycle he was traveling on was struck by a car in Vancouver on Thursday, July 4 2024. The collision occurred at approximately 9.30 pm, and despite countless efforts from bystanders and paramedics, the University of Limerick Law graduate was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Sligo native is survived by his loving family, his parents Tony and Bernadette, his siblings James, Maeve and Matthew, and his partner Antonella. His RIP.ie funeral notice reads: "Dearly loved son of Tony and Bernadette, brother of James, Maeve and Matthew and partner of Antonella.
Sadly missed by his loving family, partner, grandmother Mary, step-brothers, step-sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbors, his close friends in Vancouver and many friends.’" The Provost and Deputy President of the University of Limerick, Shane Kilcommons, led tributes to the "bright young man", writing: "On behalf of the University of Limerick, I would like to express my sincere condolences on the sudden passing of Anthony." Ar Dheis Dé go raibh sé." Friends and members of the local Loughanelton community also paid tribute to the college graduate, along with the family of late friend Brad Duffy, who also passed awa.
