Article content Grey Bruce Pride has a full lineup of events planned this Pride Month to celebrate the 2S-LGBTQQIAP+ community, promote inclusivity and raise awareness. The celebration began on Friday as the Progressive Pride flag was raised at Owen Sound city hall, Saugeen Shores municipal building and other locations around Grey-Bruce. “As our community continues to grow, it is important to recognize and celebrate its growth in diversity,” Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau said in a news release.
“I am proud of the steps Council have taken over the years to reflect that Saugeen Shores is a welcoming community to all, no matter who you love.” On Saturday, Grey Bruce Pride will hold a kickoff party at Sugar Dust Bakery at 9 a.m.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Pride cupcakes made by the bakery will go to Grey Bruce Pride. The bakery will be making the cupcakes on days throughout June, and they can be pre-ordered by e-mailing bakingbysugardust@gmail.com or calling 226-664-3878.
The rest of the month is filled with a variety of events across Grey-Bruce, including flag raisings, youth events, support groups, film screenings, drag shows, socials, dance parties, marches, parades and fundraisers. Flag raisings have happened or are scheduled to happen throughout the two counties, including in Georgian Bluffs, Meaford, Wiarton, Hanover and at numerous other locations, including schools. Georgian Bluffs is raising the Progressive Pride flag at its township offic.
