As a heat wave sweeps the Puget Sound, residents in King and Snohomish counties will have access to dozens of cooling centers this weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 90s this weekend, with the National Weather Service issuing a heat advisory . In Seattle, the Joni Earl Great Hall in Union Station will be among the spots open for people to take a break from the heat.
The Great Hall, in the Chinatown International District at 401 S. Jackson St., will be open from 8 a.
m. to 6 p.m.
, beginning Saturday. There will be places to sit, and visitors can use the restrooms and water fountains. Seattle officials also recommend visiting an air-conditioned librar y or a community center to escape the heat.
The Armory Food and Event Hall at Seattle Center is also operating as a cooling center daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.
m., according to a city website . Here are some of the cooling centers available, a list that could expand : In Snohomish County, 37 locations are listed as cooling centers, including several public libraries; Comeford Park spray park, 514 Delta Ave.
