RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WSAV) – A Richmond Hill police officer was arrested on Thursday, accused of animal cruelty. According to the Richmond Hill Police Department, the animal injured was a police K-9 assigned to Matthew Ainsworth while employed by the Long County Sheriff’s Office.

Richmond Hill PD opened the animal cruelty investigation on Tuesday when it was reported to law enforcement. Ainsworth was arrested Thursday for aggravated animal cruelty. Details on the K-9’s injury were not immediately released, but police say the dog is doing well at this time.
