A flight attendant has set the record straight on who gets the 'extra' armrest when travelling on a plane - but passengers aren't convinced. On planes with a 'three in a row' seating arrangement, there will be four armrests in total - one at the window, two in the middle, and one at the aisle. As the passenger travelling in the middle row is considered to have drawn the 'short straw', most people counter this by allowing the person in the middle to have two armrests.
However, according to one flight attendant, each passenger is only entitled to one armrest, with one operating solely as a divider. Speaking on Reddit , a traveller said: "This was a first for me on my current flight. The flight attendant made an announcement right after boarding to clarify who gets to use which armrest on the flight.
To my surprise, he was very emphatic that no person gets two armrests. "He explained every person is supposed to use the armrest on their right (and the left for the other side) and keep the armrest on the aisle clear for carts and people walking down the plane. He emphatically stated that no armrest drama would be tolerated.
" Wondering whether anyone else has heard of this 'rule', they added: "Feeling sorry for all the folks in middle seats on this flight, although mentioned to my seat mate she was welcome to both armrests. Ever heard anything like this before?" In response, one confused user said: "That's a no for me. I'm an aisle seater, and that aisle armrest is mine.
