With his black tux, black top hat and white mustache, Mr. Monopoly came to town to introduce his new Monopoly board: Colorado Springs style. In partnership with Hasbro, Top Trumps USA will be making the first ever Colorado-Springs-customized Monopoly board, to be chosen by Springs residents themselves.
The company’s goal is to capture legacy places that Colorado locals love so they can celebrate the city, said Aaron Green, a sales representative for Top Trumps USA. From landmarks to community chest and chance cards, the entire playing board will be about Colorado Springs, with the exception of the tokens, which Green said keeps the nostalgic element intact. "I want to represent your city," Green said.
“From your favorite restaurants, your favorite museums, your favorite mountain peaks and hiking trails — you will all see this on the new Colorado Springs edition.” With over 30 editions across the country, Top Trumps USA has been making city-themed boards in the U.S.
for six years, and they have been doing it globally for 26. Green and his team pick medium-sized cities that have a history of local businesses and a healthy population that are not too big where it’s difficult to narrow things down. “We don’t make it a big corporate slap,” Green said, “This isn’t a game about big, multiglobal corporations.
We want those local, little shops, and this town is full of them.” The board is set to release next spring, and Green said thousands of units will be avail.
