Article content With two major summer festivals on the horizon, the federal government has announced funding for Sault Pride ($19,800) and the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie ($5,800) to support these upcoming events. The $5,800 grant for the local Rotary Club is being provided through the government’s Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage fund and is meant to support the 101st Rotaryfest celebration, which kicks off on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the $19,800 for Sault Pride is courtesy of the government’s 2SLGBTQI+ Federal Action Plan and will go towards funding the week-long Sault Pridefest event that begins Sunday. This funding will also be used to bolster Sault Pride’s operations throughout the next 12 months, allowing the organization to further its goals concerning legal incorporation and policy development. “I am proud that our government is supporting these local groups to bring people of the Soo together,” Sheehan said in a Wednesday news release.

“Groups like the Rotary Club and Sault Pride are vital to ensuring that our city is vibrant, connected and community minded. I look forward to joining them for the celebrations over the coming week.” Rotaryfest 2024 will feature the usual assortment of live music and family activities in Clergue Park over the next three days, culminating with the annual Rotary Community Day Parade on Saturday.

This year’s Sault Pridefest begins on Sunday with a flag raising ceremony at city hall followed by a community wal.
