Police have advised people on how to prevent theft of plates on cars after a rise in the amount being taken in an area of Bolton . Officers have said the number has gone up in Farnworth in recent weeks. Number plates can be used for various illicit activities including fuel theft and other more serious crimes.

"For additional security and to prevent a theft of plates, consider securing your number plate is with security screws.

"Ensure your vehicle is also locked and secure at all times and remove all valuables and documentation from your vehicle.".
