Amadou Onana was left visibly frustrated after a reporter called him 'Andre' in a post-match interview. The Everton midfielder is currently at Euro 2024 with the Belgium national team and played in their opener against Slovakia. Despite Onana enjoying a solid game on a personal level, his side fell to a shock 1-0 defeat courtesy of an early goal from Ivan Schranz.
Afterwards he was spotted in the media mixed zone at the Frankfurt Arena to conduct post-match interviews. However, after finishing his conversation with one reporter, another tried to grab his attention but called him 'Andre' - the first name of Manchester United and Cameroon goalkeeper with the same surname. "Andre is not even my name mate, do you know what I mean?" he said in response, with the 22-year-old seemingly agitated.
Onana then started to speak to another reporter instead following his 14th appearance for the Belgian national team. He played the full 90 minutes against Slovakia on Monday night off the back of his second season at Everton . The midfielder made 37 appearances for the Toffees throughout the campaign, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
However, Onana could be set to leave Goodison Park, with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Newcastle interested in a potential move. Everton will likely be looking to balance the books ahead of next season and would prefer to sell him over Jarrad Branthwaite and Jordan Pickford . For now though, Onana will remain focussed on helping Belgium to turn .
