In stunning fashion, Ethan Page defeated defending champion Trick Williams, Je'Von Evans, Shawn Spears in a Fatal 4-Way match at NXT Heatwave on Sunday to win the NXT Championship. Williams landed the Trick Shot on both Evans and Page but was pulled out of the ring by Spears, only to watch a limp Paige fall backward on top of Evans and win the match via a passed-out pin. OH.

twitter.com/vkk5eWb0UL Sunday marked the intertwining of multiple rivalries into one major title match, and it also represented Williams' toughest challenge since winning the NXT Championship in April. Page made his WWE debut on the May 28 episode of NXT by attacking Williams, and he was granted an NXT title match at the Battleground premium live event one week later by NXT general manager Ava.
Trick beat Page to retain the championship, but "All Ego" made it clear that his pursuit of the NXT title was far from over. At around that same time, Evans was building a friendship with Williams and fighting alongside him, including beating Gallus' Joe and Mark Coffey in a tag team match. Evans was also engaged in a rivalry with Spears, who beat him in a singles match on the June 11 edition of NXT TV.
One week later, Evans bounced back by winning a battle royal to become the No. 1 contender for the NXT Championship, although Page had a legitimate gripe since he was never actually eliminated. That led to a singles match between Evans and Page later.
