ESPN to Launch Futbol W: Weekly Women’s Soccer Studio Program
ESPN announces the launch of Futbol W, a weekly studio program that will comprehensively cover professional women's soccer. The show will debut on ESPN2 on Tuesday, July 23, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET, simulcast on ESPN+. Weekly episodes will stream live on ESPN+ Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and available on-demand after that.Futbol W will focus on the NWSL, the U.S. Women's National Team, Liga MX Femenil, and CONCACAF stars playing in Europe. Beyond the field, the program will also explore the players' interests through features highlighting the intersections of culture, fashion, food, and community in the sport.Ali Krieger, one of the most accomplished stars in women's soccer, and Sebastian Salazar will co-host the one-hour news, highlights, analysis, and opinion program.Futbol W with Ali Krieger and Sebastian Salazar will serve women's soccer fans by bringing the game's best talent and perspective to multiple ESPN platforms. Krieger's unmatched experience, relationships, and insightful opinions will drive recurring personality-driven interviews and allow fans to experience all aspects of the game. A two-time FIFA Women's World Cup champion (2015 and 2019) with the U.S. Women's National Team and an NWSL champion in 2023 with NJ/NY Gotham FC, Krieger won the treble – German women's football championship, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Women's Champions League (then UEFA Women's Cup) – in 2007 playing for FFC Frankfurt. After announcing she'd retire from professional football during last year's preseason, Krieger captained Gotham FC in its remarkable "worst-to-first" run, finishing last in the league in 2022 and winning the NWSL title in her final professional match in November 2023. She joined ESPN in March.Sebastian Salazar joined ESPN in late 2016 as a host, reporter, and play-by-play announcer. Since March 2021, Salazar has paired with former U.S. Men's National Team forward Herculez Gomez as cohosts of the critically acclaimed, biweekly Fútbol Americas show, exclusively on ESPN+. The duo streamed daily live remote shows from the FIFA World Cup competitions in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022. Salazar appears regularly on ESPN FC, the company's signature soccer program, and soccer coverage across ESPN platforms.
