Eddie Redmayne was compared to Pennywise the clown after his "terrifying" Tonys Cabaret performance was ruthlessly mocked. The 42-year-old transformed himself into The Emcee for a creepy performance at the awards and it left some of those watching worried they wouldn't get to sleep. One was so freaked out they jokingly called for the Best Actor Oscar he won in 2015 to be revoked.

He fired out the showtunes with a hunched back at the bash, and his quirky display was even likened to a 'sleep paralysis demon'. Of course there were some that couldn't get enough of the skit with a variety of viewers plastered over social media after the actor got everyone talking. One wrote: "Eddie Redmayne giving us pennywise the clown emcee" while another fan said: "We didn’t need Eddie Redmayne in close-up during Les Mis and we don’t need it during this!" A third joked: "Is it possible to have someone’s oscar revoked! Give your #Oscar to Michael Keaton! #TonyAwards.

" Eddie - nominated for his role as Emcee in Cabaret At The Kit Kat Club - wasn't the only British star to make splash last night. Daniel Radcliffe has won his first Tony award for his starring role in Merrily We Roll Along and he appeared shocked to win the award for best actor in a featured role in a musical. "This has been one of the best experiences of my life," said Harry Potter star, who went on to thank the late George Furth and Stephen Sondheim "for writing this unbelievable show" in 1981, the songs of which he describe.
