A student nurse has claimed doctors repeatedly dismissed neck lumps and a waxy ear as "freshers' flu' and ' hay fever ' - until she forced them to do a biopsy that revealed she had cancer. Jasmine Raven visited her GP last September after discovering a small pea-sized lump of the left side of her neck while she was on holiday. The 22-year-old was told the mass was most likely viral but she returned when more lumps started to appear on her neck.

After undergoing ultrasound, medics confirmed Jasmine's lymph nodes were enlarged and was likely a result of 'freshers' flu'. The term is widely used to describe a wave of cold bugs which often go around the student population during the first year of university. Jasmine, who was a third year student nurse at the time, said her timetable meant she only attended university once a week and said she never went out partying.

Even hearing loss in one of her ears was put down to wax build-up or even hay fever or allergies' at first. After remaining persistent with doctors, Jasmine had a biopsy taken of the lump and was horrified when it was confirmed that cancer was present.
