Kellie Ann Carmichael’s mother has dismissed the theory she committed suicide, after her remains were found last month in Katoomba, 23 years after she went missing . Carmichael was just 24-years-old when she went missing in the NSW Blue Mountains after telling reception at her hostel she was going for a short walk on a hiking trail. Kellie Ann was diagnosed with schizophrenia, at age 21.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Grieving mother Margaret Carmichael, who is based in the Victorian town of Geelong, dismissed the theory of suicide while speaking to the Geelong Advertiser on Monday. “She would never have committed suicide — we know that, and everyone who knew her knows that,” Carmichael said. “She wasn’t well at the time, but she loved life and was a beautiful girl.

” The family indicated they would like to bring Carmichael’s remains home and put her to rest. However, they still wanted answers as to what happened to their daughter. “We want to take her home where she belongs,” she said.

Police confirmed Kellie Ann’s remains had been found by chance in bushland near Katoomba in May by police undertaking an unrelated operation. Officers were reportedly abseiling down a cliff when they stumbled across her remains. Blue Mountains officers made the find “during an unrelated police operation” on April 30.
