A Disney classic is closing in the Magic Kingdom to make way for a lounge, but the attraction will be spared the same fate in Disneyland . Last week, Disney World announced it will be permanently closing the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, an attraction that’s been in the Magic Kingdom since it opened in 1971. The old-fashioned shooting game allows guests to wield fake rifles at Old West-themed targets.

In 1984, the rifles’ lead pellets were replaced by infrared lights that prompted special effects with each hit of the Tombstone, Arizona, scenery. It’s a rare Disney attraction that once charged an additional fee to play; the fee was removed in 2021, but there’s rarely a long wait to take a turn. The Shootin’ Arcade is slated to become a lounge for members of the Disney Vacation Club, the company’s timeshare program.

This will be the first DVC lounge in the Magic Kingdom. The location is tucked between the Frontier Trading Post and the Diamond Horseshoe restaurant. Disneyland will not be following suit — its Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition is staying right where it is.

The Shootin’ Exposition is one of the vestiges of Frontierland as it was in the 1950s ; at that time, guests could ride pack mules , walk Wild West-themed trails and visit an actual gun store . Disneyland already has a DVC lounge in the park, located in Tomorrowland on the second floor of the Star Wars Launch Bay. There’s also a new lounge coming to Disney California Adventure in the space t.
