The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors will celebrate her life and legacy with a presentation at its night meeting, 7 p.

Born Dollie Booten on March 7, 1914, in Shanktown in Reva, Culpeper County, she has witnessed over a century of history, including 19 presidents, significant cultural and technological advancements and profound social changes.

Her journey took her from the rolling hills of Virginia to the bustling streets of New York City, where she excelled as a seamstress and later as a social worker for the city. "So often the real heroes are overlooked for their lack of shock and awe.
