Mysuru/Madikeri: Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa on Friday said the district has suffered crop loss in 6,900 hectares and horticulture crops in 4,000 hectares due to pre-monsoon showers . In all, six houses have been badly damaged, and the government has extended Rs 50,000 each to the family while 60 houses have suffered minor damages. The government has provided Rs 25,000 compensation to the families, the minister said.

Referring to former CM HD Kumaraswamy’s visit to rain hit areas in Periyapatna taluk earlier this week, the minister said the government will welcome constructive suggestions to address the problems. But we will not respond if he tries to politicise the issue, he stated. Animal husbandry minister K Venkatesh, who was with Mahadevappa, said it is the job of the government to assess the damages and extend compensation.

Can Kumaraswamy provide compensation, he asked. Venkatesh, who represents Periyapatna assembly segment, took objection to Kumaraswamy’s visit to the segment saying it is to garner publicity. Meanwhile, pre-monsoon showers continuing at many places in the district on Friday.

The water levels are rising in rivers that flow in Kodagu district following good rain for five days. The water level in Cauvery River at Siddapura and other places has increased, while water level at Lakshmana Tirtha river has also increased.
