A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after an assault in the town centre this afternoon. Humberside Police said it was called to Haycroft Avenue, Grimsby , at around 1pm after a man was found badly injured and in need of hospital treatment. It said the incident is believed to be linked to an "altercation" in a shop in the adjoining Cromwell Road.
There are no reports of arrests at this stage in the investigation but Humberside Police said it wants to hear from anyone who may have information. A witness told Grimsby Live they saw several police officers with riot shields and the entrance to the shop was later covered in police tape. There are a lot of police. The riot shields have been left on the ground but they will be back for those. The road is taped off all along the road.
There is blood at the entrance to the shop. It is shocking." In a statement, a spokesperson from Humberside Police said: "Investigations are underway following reports that a man suffered injuries in an alleged assault on Haycroft Avenue, following an altercation in a shop on Cromwell Road in Grimsby this afternoon, Monday 10 June.
