Country Road has issued an urgent recall on a popular buy amid fears that it may pose “significant” safety risks. The major retailer has pulled its Two-Tone Demm Mugs from sale after a serious defect was identified. The recalled mugs feature Country Road’s iconic logo and have been a popular purchase and gift option for many customers.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today But now Country Road warns they can cause “burns, lacerations and scalding” when used. “A safety hazard has been identified in our Two-Tone Demm Mug sold from 1 November 2023 until 24 May 2024,” Country Road wrote on its Facebook page. “A manufacturing defect in some of these mugs is causing them to break unexpectedly when filled with hot liquid.

“This defect can pose significant risk, which can result in burns, lacerations, and scalding.” The recall was issued in conjunction with the ACCC and consumers who own one have been urged to take immediate steps (see advice at bottom of page). Hundreds of Country Road fans reacted to the post, with many saying they’d already experienced major issues with the mugs.

“Bit late for this notice after it already exploded and burned you!” one wrote. Another said: “Mine did this the other day, was going to contact CR about this as so dangerous.” A third responded: “Both my two-toned cracked when filling from kettle ages ago and one navy cracked in microwave with milk in it, I emailed CR both times, zero response! Not good enough.
