Pupils were showered in powder paint in all the colours of the rainbow before completing a course set out on the school’s grounds for the sponsored ‘Colour Run.’ PE teacher Joe O’Brien, who organised the event, said the hospice was chosen because many pupils and staff had in some way experienced the service it provides. And together they raised more than £3,700 for the Reedley-based charity, which was nominated by Mr O'Brien for the care they gave his late grandma, Celia Cook.
He said: “My grandma was looked after by the wonderful staff at Pendleside Hospice last summer before she sadly passed away. The care she received from the hospice was amazing and I wanted to organise something to give back to them in my grandma's memory. I know a lot of our families have had experiences with Pendleside Hospice and it is a charity close to a lot of people's hearts.
"I have been blown away with how much money the children have raised and I can't thank our families and wider school community enough for all of their generosity.”A parent added: “My son was in his first year at school when my grandma was cared for there in her final days and they, along with the staff at Padiham Green, provided valuable support to all of us as a family to help us navigate such a difficult and sad time.”Headteacher Lisa Tyrer added: “Pendleside Hospice has touched the lives of many of our families, including my own, and is therefore a charity very close to our hearts.
