Irish fans have been eagerly awaiting news on the upcoming The Penguin series starring Colin Farrell and now we finally know how we’ll be able to watch it. The series is being produced by HBO in the US, which often works closely with Warner Bros Pictures on their DC Studios properties, and is a spin-off of the hit Matt Reeves movie The Batman. The series will be an immediate follow on from the events of the film, and will reportedly show how Oswald Cobblepot rises to become one of the biggest crime lords of Gotham City.
While American audiences knew they’d be able to watch the series on MAX (formerly HBO Max), Irish fans had to wait a little longer for confirmation as to our viewing option, and it’s finally been officially confirmed. While the series still doesn’t have a concrete release date, The Penguin will be airing in Ireland exclusively on Sky and the streaming service NOW. In addition to that news, Sky also confirmed that like other HBO series such as House of the Dragon and The Last of Us, fans will be able to tune into each episode at the same time as it airs in the US each week and on demand thereafter.
After the first trailer dropped, the Irish actor teased what fans can expect from the Batman spin-off, telling MovieZine that the series would be ‘dark’ and ‘violent’. He shared: ‘It was a long and really wonderful experience. It’s dark, that’s what I can tell you about it.
It’s really dark. It’s really heavy, I think, it certainly was doing.
