Channel 4 axe controversial reality show after just one series (Image: PA Archive/PA Images) Channel 4 has pulled the plug on its reality TV experiment, Banged Up: Stars Behind Bars, after just one season, despite the show's initial success and a BAFTA nod. Debuting in November 2023, the programme threw celebrities into the grim reality of life behind bars at the now-defunct HMP Shrewsbury, where they spent eight days under lock and key with former inmates. The eclectic mix of participants in the inaugural series included EastEnders ' Sid Owen, Gogglebox's Marcus Luther, ex-minister Johnny Mercer, former Tory MP Neil Parish, pop star HRVY, journalist Peter Hitchens, and comedian Tom Rosenthal.
