Currently there are two big releases out in theatres, Kabir Khan’s Chandu Champion and Stree spin off Munjya. Both films haven’t see that big promotions and have stories sets in rural Maharashtra. However, despite big star cast like Kartik Aaryan in the former, the horror comedy is making a bigger splash at the box office.
While Munjya’s collection has crossed Rs 50 crores, Chanu Champion managed to collect Rs 29.3 crores in 5 days. The numbers of the two films may seem similar.
Both films collected about Rs 30 crores in its first 5 days of theatrical release. However, Chandu Champion has shot at a budget of Rs 120 crores and the film is not even close to break even in a week. Meanwhile, Munjya was shot at a budget of Rs 30 crores.
The makers were also not expecting Munjya to give such tough competition to a big commercial release like Chandu Champion backed by names like Kabir Khan. The horror comedy received rave reviews from critics and film fans alike and weeks after its release people are still raving about the film, which is part of the Stree horror comedy series by Maddock Films. While Chanu Champion has received positive reviews from major publications the buzz around the film has been dying down.
Chandu Champion is a biopic and follows the story of India's first Paralympics gold medallist Murlikant Petkar. He won Gold in swimming for India, before which he also won several international medals for India in boxing. The story set in rural India follows Petkar’s.
