The National Assembly of Cambodia (NA) is asking China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) to support a project to develop the NA into a “digital assembly” and also to help rehabilitate the infrastructure of the capital and 24 provincial parliament offices. The aim of the proposal will help to develop the nation and expand cooperation between both national bodies to the benefit of China, Cambodia and their peoples. The proposal came during a working meeting between President of the National Assembly of Cambodia Khuon Sudary and Shohrat Zakir,China’s Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress at the National Assembly building in Phnom Penh yesterday.

Sudary said that she considers the visit of a high-level delegation from the NPC to Cambodia to be a historically significant event. She added that the visit will contribute significantly to enhancing the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Cambodia and China – helping to build a common destiny for Cambodia and China of the highest quality and standard. “Currently, Cambodia’s progress is inseparable from the contribution of our Chinese friends,” she said.

She added that she is confident that the Cambodian and Chinese legislatures can work together to engage agreements between both countries for the common benefit of all. For his part, Zakir thanked Sudary for offering a warm welcome to him and the NPC delegation, offering congratulations on her electi.
