A mum has paid tribute to her loving daughter who died at the age of just 36. Kirsty Leanne Smith from Haydock Street in Bolton died on December 3, 2023. An inquest into her death took place this week.

Miss Smith was found at home by her partner, and a friend. Tragically she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The cause of death was given as hanging.

Her mum, Joanne Ivy Roberts said: “I have always said she would die before me and I always thought it would be the drugs , but I did not expect it would be this way. “She had a good side and would help people out, but usually the wrong type of people. “I did not know about the methadone, as she told me it was due to painkiller addiction.

Mrs Roberts said Miss Smith had a good childhood. Miss Smith, who had been diagnosed with a personality disorder, started smoking cannabis from a young age and took various drugs for most of her life, the inquest heard. She became homeless at one point in her life and moved from partner to partner before her recent relationship, who was described as ‘lovely’ and a ‘nice lad’ by her mum.

Her relationship with mum Ms Robert was described as ‘strained’ due to her lifestyle but after Miss Smith started seeing her recent partner, their relationship improved, and they would have tea together.
