Bittersweet moment grandmother, 90, proudly watches her granddaughter thrive in hospital job after being rushed there following a fall at home - only to pass away less than a month later By Alice Wade Published: 20:24 BST, 29 May 2024 | Updated: 20:33 BST, 29 May 2024 e-mail View comments This is the bittersweet moment a grandmother proudly watches her granddaughter thrive in her hospital role after the 90-year-old was rushed there for treatment following a fall at home. Sadly, less than a month after seeing first-hand her loved one succeed in her job, Hazel Shaw, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, passed away. Her emotional story features on tonight's episode of Casualty 24/7 on Channel 5 , where the doting grandmother is seen being rushed into hospital after having a fall at her home nearby.

Though she's clearly in a lot of pain as she's filmed, when she reaches Barnsley hospital, Hazel's mood quickly changes upon the arrival of her granddaughter, Jess, who works there and rushes to help. Once Hazel is set up in a hospital bed with painkillers, Jess is seen holding her nan's hand on the A&E ward and during the tender moment, the medical expert reassures her grandmother before trying to get to the bottom of the incident. In a heart wrenching scene, 90-year-old Hazel (pictured left) who has suffered a fall, gets to watch her granddaughter (right) thriving in her hospital job, less than a month before she passes away Jess, who is a trainee clinical advanced practitioner at Barnsl.
