3 Walsh Jesuit on May 29 in a Division II, Region 5 semifinal. For the second year in a row, No. 1 Rocky River and No.
2 Bay will square off for the regional championship . The Rockets won last year’s matchup in overtime and are excited for the next opportunity in this rivalry on May 31. “We’ve been preparing for this chance to go back to River all season,” Bay coach Victoria Budzyn said.
“We’re ready to go.” Both teams were on a collision course toward this big-time rematch, but they had to get past the regional semifinals first. River handled Revere earlier in the night, and it was up to Bay to keep its end of the bargain.
That wasn’t much of an issue. Senior Riley LaVogue stuffed the stat-sheet in typical fashion with six goals and two assists. Gracie Fitchpatrick put up two goals and three others scored.
Ella Boehringer was one of them and she also added two assists. “Walsh is a great team, we knew it was going to be a battle,” LaVogue said. “I’m happy that we came on top.
We’re onto the next. That’s what we’ve been working for in our two weeks off (before playoffs).” Bay scored first as Boehringer found LaVogue less than four minutes in.
Lauren Vitantonio tied it up with a free position goal, but the Rockets scored the next three. Aver.
