After having largely recovered last year from the losses of the COVID-19 pandemic, Balkan countries depending partly or largely on tourism expect a record year in 2024. Sandy beaches, pristine waters, historical and cultural monuments as well as other sites of natural beauty - as well as cheaper prices than Western European destinations - continue to attract millions of tourists to Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece and Turkey. In 2024, according to estimates, the global tourism market will reach 97-98 per cent of its 2019 pre-pandemic level, but the Balkan tourism sector expects even higher figures.
