Spain's royal family gathered in the capital of Madrid on Wednesday to mark 10 years since King Felipe VI of Spain was proclaimed as monarch. The sovereign was joined by his wife Queen Letizia of Spain and two daughters, Crown Princess Leonor of Spain, 18, and Infanta Sofia of Spain, 17.  The royal family kicked off celebrations by attending the solemn release of the royal guard at the Palacio de Oriente (the Royal Palace). The King then delivered a speech to gathered royals and key Spanish figures. His Majesty looked smart in a navy suit and purple tie that paired well with youngest daughter Infanta Sofia's outfit, while his wife and heir opted for more colourful ensembles.

Felipe ascended the Spanish throne at the stroke of midnight on June 19, 2014, following his father King Juan Carlos' abdication after a string of scandals. The new monarch was formally sworn in and proclaimed king the next morning, after the symbolic passing of the Captain General's sash from Juan Carlos to his son, signifying the transfer of royal and military power to Felipe. When he took the throne, he was the youngest monarch in all of Europe.
