The last time I wore a midi skirt was probably the summer after I started middle school. You could've called me Lizzie McGuire then, because I was a outfit repeater. I wore one teal tiered peasant skirt just about everywhere.
Now that I can look back at my middle school days fondly (instead of cringing), I'll be the first to admit that despite my many fashion misses, that skirt was probably the best addition to my wardrobe at the time. So when I began seeing long, white breezy skirts everywhere last summer — and was reminded of the merits of owning pieces that are easy to throw on in hot weather — I started looking for the perfect white skirt. After trying on dozens of skirts over the span of a year that were too long, too thin, or too sheer, I finally found the ($60) at Free People — and it's so good I've been outfit repeating (again) this summer.
What I love about the Lowen Midi Skirt is how effortlessly chic it is. In my opinion, a classic A-line silhouette is timeless. I also like that this billowy skirt is made of 100 percent cotton, which means it's lightweight and comfortable for warm weather.
And despite being airy and light, the skirt doesn't feel thin, thanks to a poplin fabric that gives it a bit more structure. Another bonus? The skirt has pockets! Those were not expected, but of course greatly appreciated. Another thing I look for in my summer staples is versatility, and I'm happy to report that I've already worn this skirt to a summer soirée, the airport.
