Fans of a 'world-famous' cat known for journeying around a cathedral city have raised more than £5k to cover vet bills after his latest escapade. Gallivanting Griffin - well known in for his outings - recently went missing and was found injured 15 miles from his home. Worried owner Rachel Craft, 28, believes he was hit by a car after he was found bleeding.

But it's not the first time the three-year-old Romanian rescue cat has embarked on a solo journey. A Facebook page dedicated to his forays keeps track of his sightings in shops, at the University of Kent campus, in random people's homes and cars and in his local pub. Fans of the Gallivanting Griffin page - of which there are more than 5,100 from all over the world - even travel to Canterbury to try and spot the adventurous feline.

"You only have to go on the page to see what he gets up to and how many people are touched by him," mother-of-one Ms Craft explained. "There are people from all over the world - everyone just seems to be in love with him. "There's people on the page from the US, Australia, Mexico.

.. He's pretty famous; he's like a local celebrity.

Everybody knows him." Ms Craft, a psychology student at the University of Christchurch, adopted Griffin when he was around five months old. He was rescued from Romania by an animal welfare charity called Bid to Save a Stray.

"I think he's probably a second or third-generation street cat, so wandering is in his blood," Ms Craft continued. "He knows no boundaries. He will.
