Varanasi: In a unique initiative of Mau district administration to bring transgenders into the mainstream of society and opening new vistas for them, a beautician training centre and beauty parlour, Satrangi Saundarya Prasadhan Kendra , was inaugurated on Saturday. Inaugurated by chief secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, the centre-cum-parlour had been opened for transgenders under the National Urban Livelihood Mission at a prime location of the city, said Mau district magistrate Pravin Kumar Mishra on Sunday. “The Satrangi centre is aimed at forming a group of transgenders in keeping with their interests and abilities to do work they wanted to do for a life of dignity and livelihood.

” The initiative would prevent transgenders from undignified activities to earn livelihood, he said, adding, the district urban development authority would facilitate running beautician training programme and even provide cosmetic and other necessary material to run the centre. The earnings would be shared among the group members and with the capital they could further strengthen the group and increase business. After completing their training, transgenders would be free to run their own centres.

Transgenders, who are in the first batch of Satrangi centre, expressed the hope that once they were skilled they would not only be able to run their own parlours but also get orders for bridal and other makeup in family celebrations.
