“Death ends a life, but not a relationship.” That’s one of the many lessons of life imparted by Morrie Schwartz to his beloved student, Mitch Albom. And it is one of the many life lessons that are the central theme of “Tuesdays With Morrie,” Actors Repertory Theatre’s upcoming production.

The play will perform 7 p.m. June 26-29 in the Dryden Theatre on the campus of Central Lakes College.

The play is an adaptation of the 1997 memoir by Albom that topped the New York Times Nonfiction Bestsellers List of 23 combined weeks in 2007, remained on the Best Seller list for several years, and is the best-selling memoir of all time. Subtitled “An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life’s Greatest Lesson,” Albom teamed with critically-acclaimed Minnesota playwright to bring the story to the stage. The play has seen two Broadway stagings (most recently featuring Len Cariou in the title role), numerous regional productions, and was a made-for-TV movie starring Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria.

The book is about a series of visits Albom made to his former Brandeis University sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, as Schwartz was dying from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, aka, Lou Gherig’s disease). At the time, Albom was a sports journalist and author, screenwriter and television/radio broadcaster. He had last seen his beloved professor on graduation day sixteen years before a chance viewing of Ted Koppel’s ‘Nightline’ feature on Schwartz and his illness.
