In January 2021, the pioneering DJ, producer and hyperpop trailblazer died at the age of 34 in a fall from a hotel rooftop in Athens.
SOPHIE’s influence continues to be felt throughout music, with Charli XCX’s new album ‘Brat’ including the song ‘So I’ , written in memory of her friend and close collaborator. Charli debuted the song live in March at Billboard ’s Women In Music event, which you can watch here . Elaborating on the song, Charli told NME : “It’s probably not as simply put as [a tribute] but there is a song on the record which talks about my relationship with SOPHIE.
Essentially, dealing with grief is what the song is about. It’s very real. All the lyrics are things that I would text my friends – the kind .
