Carol Smillie , who appeared on shows including Wheel of Fortune and Changing Rooms , has left showbusiness behind her to work in the wedding industry. The 90s TV legend, 62, is now a Humanist Celebrant based in the Glasgow area and regularly shares pictures of herself overseeing couples’ ceremonies on her Instagram page. The former presenter’s career change came after she spoke about the dwindling opportunities for women onscreen as they age which had left her feeling a ‘bit foot stamps and angry.

’ However, she said she tried to push aside the injustice as it was not ‘healthy’ to dwell on ageism in TV and instead focus on ‘moving onto something completely different.’ Carol told the How To Be 60 With Kaye Adams podcast: ‘You’re better to take yourself out of it and do something completely different. I watch other people get angry or upset about jobs not coming their way and you think “What’s the point? Just move on.

Take control of it yourself.”’ She added: ‘I just think it’s someone else’s turn – time to move to something completely different. Something that’s not going to matter your age so much, or your weight.

’ Carol also said she would never go under the knife to secure a job, explaining: ‘If I start fiddling about with my face then my body doesn’t match. That’s the other thing I noticed with the women I worked with in TV at the time, I noticed a few of them now have gone down the route of changing their face or changing thin.
