Using a new genetic genealogy technology for the first time, Niagara Regional Police are pointing the finger at a man they believe is the killer in a 25-year-old murder case. Joseph Archie (Raymond) Brousseau will never stand trial for the murder of 26-year-old Nadine Gurczenski in 1999. The truck driver died in 2017.
But police are so confident that Brousseau murdered Gurczenski and left her body in a Vineland ditch that they announced the closure of their cold case investigation Thursday. “Had he been alive, he would be arrested and charged with second-degree murder,” said Staff Sgt. Andrew Knevel, in charge of the NRP’s homicide and major crime unit.
“We believe that we’ve identified the offender that’s responsible for Nadine’s death.” Nadine’s former husband Paul Gurczenski, daughter Heather and son Nash released a statement through police thanking officers for dedicating their time to solving her case. They also said they were thankful for the new technologies and that they brought the family “peace and closure.
” “We want to recognize that Nadine was an incredibly important part of our family. She meant more than a news headline. She was a beautiful young woman inside and out, mother, wife and now grandmother who had her whole life ripped away from her and everyone who loved her.
“She is very loved and missed every day by her whole family and we will always make sure her memory lives on forever.” Gurczenski emigrated from Jamaica in 1992 with .
