tazewell, va. — Live music is coming Friday and competitions get underway Saturday when the 21st Annual Fiddlers’ Convention opens at the Historic Crab Orchard Museum & Pioneer Park in Tazewell County. The Fiddlers’ Convention was previously held at the Tazewell County Fairgrounds before moving to the Historic Crab Orchard Museum, said Cynthia Farmer, the museum’s director.

Now the shows are performed outside one of the museum’s historic structures. “It’s held on the Horse Pen Cabin porch,” Farmer said Wednesday. “It’s beautiful down there, and apparently the weather’s going to cooperate.

” A tent will be up to provide shade and chairs will be available as well, but visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs if they wish to do so, Farmer said. Food vendors offering a menu featuring hot dogs, ice cream, chili, lemonade and other items will be on the grounds. The Historic Crab Orchard Museum & Pioneer Park will be open both days during the Fiddlers’ Convention, she said.

Tickets include a weekend pass for $20, a Friday pass for $10 and a Saturday pass for $15. There will be free admission for kids 12 and under with an accompanying adult. Passes will be available at the gate.

Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday and performances will start at 5 p.
